Invictus Wellbeing, a mental health charity supporting children and young people across Calderdale and Bradford, completed their second Active Teams Challenge in September, ‘The Active Teams Daily Boost’.

This challenge was a team-focused one with 18 staff taking part in total. Colleagues at Invictus logged 426 active days during the challenge between the 11th of September and the 11th of October. The Blisters Sisters team finished top of the table, with The Might L Squad just behind. Two staff members even managed a full house of 30 active days.

From the data, the ‘Active Teams Daily Boost Challenge' has had a huge impact on activity and movement levels amongst Invictus Wellbeing colleagues.

The below compares the activity levels over the challenge period to the previous 30 days.

Staff Feedback

After the challenge was complete, team members were asked a series of question about the challenge. These included, why they took part, how active they were before the challenge and how things had changed after the challenge. Here are some of the responses:

My level of activity at work was low as I have a very desk-based job. I decided to take part (in the challenge) to increase my awareness of the amount of daily exercise I take.

I feel it did make a difference to my overall wellbeing.  At times it was difficult to find the time, even for 15 minutes of exercise, but once I got out and completed the exercise, I felt the benefit of it, especially in my energy levels.  I probably slept better too.

My activity levels were almost none before the challenge. I decided to take part for personal motivation and teamwork. It made me recognise that the exercise had done me some good.

During the challenge, I felt more focused, and my concentration was better. I felt motivated to do more. Now it's finished, I'm still trying to do a 20-minute daily walk at lunchtime.

The positive reflections of the team members were also echoed by Invictus Wellbeing CEO Danny Hutchinson. Danny has a firm belief that improving physical health is key to improving staff morale and wellbeing and would highly recommend working with Active Teams.

Active Teams has been a game changer for our organisation. We have seen not only a huge increase in physical activity but also a change in organisational culture and outlook on physical activity and exercise. Our teams are carrying on with their daily 'Take Tens' during their busy days, meeting outside of work and we have seen an increase in our staff signing up for gym memberships. Improving physical health is a key way of improving staff morale and wellbeing and I would strongly recommend Nairn and his team at Active Teams to any organisation looking to increase staff retention and happiness.
