Co-designing The Pole-to-Pole Challenge

Following the success of this summer’s Rastrick Around the World Challenge, Active Calderdale, alongside local residents and organisations in Rastrick, are co-designing a new winter challenge. Following two partnership meetings to gather insights and design the challenge, we can now confirm this will be a Pole-to-Pole challenge involving two separate teams.

Long term Sustainability

The process of co-designing this challenge is a key example of what we can achieve when we connect the systems together. The Rastrick challenges have enabled local organisations and services, such as adult health and social care, schools and community centres to work together and play their part. To embed physical activity into day-to-day life long term, it is vital that all these systems continue to work in unison and drive the physical activity agenda in the community.

Move your own way!

Those taking part will be able to be active in any way they choose, recording their weekly activity levels or steps and submitting them to a local organisation in Rastrick.

Beginning on the 3rd of January 2023, one team will set off (virtually) from the North pole and aim to reach the South, while the other will set off from the South, heading North. Each week, the distance travelled will be updated, with a visual provided to see who is on course to reach the opposite pole first. It’s envisaged it could take anywhere between 6-12 weeks for both teams to reach their poles and complete the challenge. We’re hoping this will help support people who want to make sustainable changes to their lifestyle in January and beyond.
