£5K Grants Available to Get West Yorkshire Moving
Looking to energise your community, promote healthier lifestyles, and make your neighbourhood more connected? Thousands of pounds in grant funding is now up for grabs to help local organisations get more people walking, wheeling and cycling across West Yorkshire.
The West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Community Grants Scheme is offering up to £5,000 to voluntary, community, and not-for-profit groups who want to kick-start or expand projects that promote active travel. Whether it’s bike hire schemes, walking groups, cycling equipment, route maps, or free bike servicing, this funding could be the boost your group needs to get your idea off the ground.
Just look at what’s already been achieved:
- Age UK Bradford and District launched walking groups for over 55s.
- Invictus Wellbeing in Calderdale introduced one-to-one walk and talk sessions for young people.
- Lightwaves Community Trust in Wakefield provided secure community bike storage.
- Music: Leeds created guided music history walks through the city – blending culture with cardio.
These are just a few examples of how funding has been used to turn local passion into real community impact.
Mayor Tracy Brabin commented:
“By choosing active travel as a way of getting around our region, we’re improving our health and wellbeing as well as tackling the climate emergency.”
