Continuing on from Part 1: Finding new solutions for Calderdale, as part of the Active Calderdale Strategy we are trialing new and emerging technologies, to find innovative ways to get the borough moving. Social media listening research is one such technology.

As part of the evaluation for the Active Strategy, it’s important that we trial new and emerging technologies to promote and measure levels of physical activity in Calderdale. One such technology is social media research software.
Traditional market research asks questions of participants. Social media research delivers insights from naturally occurring conversations across a wide range of groups. There are now tools that can monitor online discussions and opinions, with this data offering useful insights to us in several ways.

The summer of 2019 has seen some really exciting developments in the communications work around Active Calderdale. This article summarises of the work in August to promote physical activity across the borough.
Throughout the design thinking and strategy building process, one recurring theme has been present – that people assume that to be “active” you have to be in the gym or running marathons. We’re working on a campaign to re-frame active for everyone in Calderdale.

The ActiveCdale cup is a friendly competition between the primary schools of Calderdale, the objective is to be the most active, in the greatest variety of ways.
The 2019 competition was held on social media, with schools throughout the borough taking part by submitting images and videos of all of the unique ways that they stay active throughout the day.
