Creating accessible, inclusive and attractive opportunities

Active Calderdale is a movement to enable movement - for everyone...

And a key part of making a more active Calderdale is offering a wide range of physical activities across our community, from sports teams to gentle activity groups. That means that everyone has the opportunity to move, and aren’t stopped from doing so by barriers such as cost, accessibility, or time.

Activity providers - those running classes, teams and groups that involve movement - play a crucial role in helping us move more. Not just by running these sessions, but by welcoming people in and making them feel comfortable and supported.

Using our Activity Finder

We want to make it easy for everyone in Calderdale to discover the many opportunities to get moving and stay active. That’s why we've made this Activity Finder available - a free and easy tool that helps you find activities happening throughout our community.

If you're an activity provider, you can easily add your details and share them with others.

Are you a local club or activity provider? Sign up to the Activity Finder to make it easier for people to discover and join your activities or club.

Play your part

If you’re providing opportunities for people to be active - you’re already part of Active Calderdale! And by signing up to join our community of organisations and groups from across the borough, you can:

  • Help create more spaces for people to join in different and accessible activities.

  • Connect with people and groups across the borough committed to making it easier for more people to move every day.

  • Work together to promote the benefits of moving more, and the many opportunities available to do so.

“Women's squash has been a fabulous opportunity to keep fit and engage in physical activity. There are no other schemes like this in my area that I am aware of. It has allowed me to not only play squash (never done before) but meet other women in the local community."

“I found out about the Squash from the Mosque project and was really surprised that I would be able to play squash. Since coming, I have been more active and never thought I would be able to enjoy a sport.”

In this video, we showcase the successful collaboration between St. Augustine’s and Cricket Asylum, aimed at creating accessible, diverse, and inclusive opportunities for physical activity.

By connecting community members with physical activity providers, this partnership promotes social interaction, boosts confidence, improves life skills such as communication, and enhances both physical and mental well-being.
