Active Workplaces

Many of us spend a large part of our adult lives at work.

Some of us have jobs which require us to move a lot throughout the day. But many of us have jobs which mean we spend a lot of time sitting at desks - at home or at the office - which means we can get into the habit of not moving around regularly.

That’s why building opportunities to move more into the working day can make such a difference. It can help us all stay healthier - studies show that staff in ‘active workplaces’ have 27% fewer days off ill. And moving can make us all feel more energised and productive. Because when we move we’re stronger.

By being part of Active Calderdale, your organisation can be part of a network making our borough move more - and access support to make everyday movement part of your working practice.

Together with workplaces, we aim to:

  • make movement a regular, normal part of your working day,

  • help you get access to useful, reliable information about the benefits of being active,

  • promote opportunities to move more among staff and also customers,

  • feel confident in building more opportunities to be active into your regular plans.

“Last year, we introduced various initiatives which have resulted in the team becoming more physically active in the workplace. We were keen to take this a step further by providing the opportunity for a dedicated hour a week, taken at colleague discretion, with wellbeing at the core. As a result, some of the team have been utilising this time to increase their physical activity, which naturally has a positive impact on wellbeing.”
