Brackenbed Park has been given a new lease of life, and the community came together to celebrate in style. Thanks to recent improvements, shaped by the vision of residents, the park is now a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy.
To mark the transformation, Active Calderdale supported the 51st Pellon Scouts to host a special launch event. The goal was simple: to invite people in, showcase what the park has to offer, and encourage more local families to explore this hidden gem.
A Day Full of Fun
Visitors had plenty to enjoy on the day. Alongside woodland and meadow walks, there were activities for all ages – from henna and face painting to archery, bouncy castles, and of course, ice cream and food stalls.
The turnout was incredible. Over 1,000 people came through the park, most from Park Ward, Warley and North Halifax, but some travelled from as far as Rochdale and Bradford. The event was also supported by Halifax Central Initiative, helping to make it a real community celebration.
Rediscovering a Hidden Gem
For many, it was their first time visiting Brackenbed Park. Some shared fond memories of using the site years ago, while others said they were surprised to learn it even existed. What’s certain is that many left saying they planned to return.
Perfectly placed between Park Ward and North Halifax, the park is set to become a shared space where communities can connect, play, and spend time in nature together.
What’s Next?
The improvements aren’t stopping here. Coming soon are tree-top sculptures designed by Halifax Academy students, a creative way-marker trail featuring artwork from local children, two new accessible benches, and better signage to help visitors find their way around.
