The Calderdale Stroke Support Group is a voluntary group open to anyone in Calderdale who has experienced a stroke and is working to rebuild their life.

At the group's September meeting, inspired by the recent Olympic and Paralympic Games, they were supported to host an Olympic-style event in partnership with Calderdale Sport Services. The activities included a bean bag throw, timed catching, basketball, and boccia. The members had a great time, showing their competitive spirit as they participated.

Four teams of five took turns trying out each activity and points were tallied after each round. The event ended with a prize ceremony, where some lucky participants took home gold, silver, or bronze medals. Many members expressed how much they enjoyed the session, leaving the event reminiscing about the sports they used to play.

The group meets monthly at the Maurice Jagger Centre, with each session featuring different guests who lead activities or share information on topics relevant to the members. Based on the success of this event, the group has decided to make the Olympic games a yearly event and is considering incorporating more physical activity into their future sessions.

The laughter, conversation, and even the competitive spirit really lifted the room. The medals were a great touch! I'm sure everyone had a fantastic time."
