A new fitness class is helping people in Rastrick get active, build confidence and have fun while doing it.

Boogie Bounce, a trampoline-based exercise class at The Space @ Field Lane, has quickly become one of the centre's most popular activities, attracting around 23 participants each week and generating so much interest that the team added a second weekly session.

The classes are the latest example of how The Space @ Field Lane has embedded physical activity into everyday community life. Having been part of the Active Rastrick project for several years, the centre has developed the confidence, skills and motivation to drive activity independently, creating new opportunities for local people to move more and improve their wellbeing.

Boogie Bounce combines exercise and music in a fun, supportive environment. Each participant has their own trampoline and follows the instructor through a series of low-impact movements designed to get people moving, raise their heart rate and build fitness. The sessions are suitable for a range of abilities, allowing people to work at their own pace while enjoying the energy of exercising as part of a group.

"We wanted a class that was different. This is a class that is suitable for older people too, it is energetic but easier on the joints than classic dance or Zumba. It's attracting new and old customers alike"

Amanda Caldwell - Volunteer at The Space

For many attendees, the classes have become much more than a weekly workout.

After retiring and recovering from a heart attack, local resident Linda Goode was looking for a way to become active again. Having discovered classes at The Space @ Field Lane, she decided to give them a try and soon joined Boogie Bounce. Linda now attends several sessions each week, has made new friends and feels more motivated to exercise regularly.

"I saw adverts for Dance Fit Gold at the Space, so I decided to give it a try, and I still go every Tuesday. From there I started to go to Boogie Bounce. I wasn’t sure if I could manage it at first, but you only do what you can do, and now I go to that twice a week. Going to these classes I have made new friends and it has motivated me to exercise more."

Similarly, Anne Hirst was searching for a local activity to help improve her mobility. Since joining classes at The Space @ Field Lane, she says she has become stronger week by week and enjoys both the physical and mental benefits of exercising to music.

"I was looking for something local to me and found this class. I was not very mobile before, but I love Boogie Bounce and I’m getting stronger every week. I’m feeling great, physically and mentally, and I love doing exercise to music. It makes me feel good and happy."

These stories demonstrate the impact that accessible, community-based activities can have on people's lives. By creating welcoming opportunities for residents to get moving, The Space @ Field Lane is helping people improve their health, build social connections and discover activities they genuinely enjoy.

Boogie Bounce sessions currently take place on Wednesdays at 5.45pm and Fridays at 11.30am. New participants can take advantage of an introductory offer of £3 per session before the standard £5 fee applies.

If you've been thinking about trying something new, now could be the perfect time to take the first bounce towards a healthier, more active lifestyle.
