After an eventful end of the year, with visits from Sport England and a funding submission, it was back to business as usual for Active Calderdale in January. Here are the highlights from January 2020:

The Mixy Marchers take up walking netball

As part of our work to support institutions and organisations in North Halifax, we’ve been working with the Mixy Marchers, a ladies walking group in Mixenden. Recently, they’ve taken up walking netball as another fun way to get more active. You can read more about this on the Halifax North and East Blog.

The OSCA Foundation were visited by Our Sports Minister

Our Sports Development team have been working hard to support the OSCA Foundation to secure funding for improvements to their facilities. We’re proud to have supported them to raise the substantial amount needed to ensure that clubhouse facilities at Forest Cottage.

Sports Minister, Nigel Adams MP, was invited to see the plans for himself – and was very complimentary. You can read all about it on the OSCA Foundation website.

Getting the word out to the Regeneration Team

During a series of networking events for the Regeneration team at Calderdale council, members of our workplaces team, with help from a local Tai Chi group, introduced staff to the benefits of being active at work.

We’re delighted to have met with Together Housing

As part of our efforts to locate new partners and stakeholders for the active strategy, we have a meeting with Together Housing. Discussions around utilising physical activity to add value to their youth and employment services were incredibly useful, and we’re excited to continue this relationship moving forward.

Our “This is Active” campaign is taking shape

We were hard at work on our photo shoots for our upcoming campaign. A huge thank you to the Calderdale volunteers who agreed to be the stars of our campaign. We can’t wait to share it with you soon.
