I live with my wife in Rastrick and I'm a member of St. Matthew's Anglican & Methodist Church. Staying physically active has always been important to me. Over the years, I’ve found different ways to keep moving, whether it’s going for short walks, heading out on cycle rides, or enjoying horse riding. These activities not only help me stay fit but also give me a sense of freedom and connection to the outdoors.

Recently, my doctor recommended I try Pilates to help improve my posture. I suffer from lower back pain, and Pilates offers a gentle yet effective way to strengthen my core and support my spine. It’s a new challenge, but one I’m willing to take on to maintain my mobility and independence.

“I’m determined to stay active.”

Being active provides me with more than just physical benefits - it brings a sense of well-being and opens up new possibilities. I love my walking holidays, taking part in sponsored events, discovering nature, and enjoying the great fitness that comes from regular movement. These goals keep me motivated and remind me of what’s still possible.

Of course, it’s not always easy. I live with multiple musculoskeletal problems, and my biggest challenge is maintaining what I’ve got for as long as I can. But I’m committed to doing just that - which is staying active, staying hopeful, and continuing to find joy in movement.

A message from Anthony Whittaker, Public Health Practitioner:

“As part of Active Rastrick, we have created relationships with a range of different groups, organisations and services in the area. We know that when the people and places that we know and trust encourage a behaviour, we’re more likely to follow suit. In this case, we know local GP practices in the area support and encourage their patients to be active and are also aware of local physical activity sessions. It’s great to see the patient pathway into physical activity opportunities in practice in Rastrick, this is evidence that the system is connected and the approach is continuing to be a success”.
