Creating active park resources

As part of our ongoing focus on parks and green spaces, Active Calderdale has been developing a new set of park map resource leaflets, designed to help people discover the many ways they can be active right on their doorstep.
These maps are more than just guides. They’re conversation starters, created especially for practitioners who work with local residents, from social prescribers and community connectors to wellbeing coaches and activity leaders. Each leaflet highlights what makes a local park special, includes measured walking routes, and offers simple ideas for getting active in the space, no matter your fitness level.
To make sure the maps truly reflect local communities, we’ve worked closely with park partnership groups throughout the process. While bringing together lots of different opinions meant it took time to get things right, the result is a balance between local insight and consistent branding — a quality resource that feels both personal and professional.
Those already using the maps have found them invaluable tools for inspiring movement and wellbeing. By being hyper-local, they help bridge the gap between “I should be more active” and “I can do that here.” Whether it’s a short walk, a gentle stretch, or a family game in the park, these resources make it easier to encourage people to move more in places that feel familiar, safe, and accessible.
Each map is a gateway to exploration, a reminder that every step in your local park is a step towards feeling stronger, healthier, and more connected to your community.
