The North Halifax Partnership continues to champion community wellbeing through meaningful engagement and events.

One recent success story is the transformation of community space in Mixenden, where the newly built Mixenden Urban Park has become a vital hub for local connection and celebration.

Previously, the Dodgeholme Tenants and Residents Group had no suitable outdoor space for their events, often resorting to hosting them on the street or on overgrown land by the river. These locations were far from ideal, but they were the only options available. The creation of Mixenden Urban Park has changed that, offering a safe, welcoming, and functional space for the community to come together.

This year’s Egg-travaganza event was a perfect example of what’s now possible.

Over 350 people attended and took part in a wide range of free activities, including:

  • A pop-up skatepark

  • Basketball and football sessions

  • Arts and crafts

  • An Easter egg hunt

The event was a huge success, with plans already underway for future activities like a kids’ outdoor disco to build on the momentum.

Feedback from the day captured the spirit of the event:

“The rugby team really enjoyed the event – it was such a great atmosphere.” – Partner

“It was a fantastic day, well done to all involved.” – Resident
“I loved the skate park – that was my favourite part of the day!” – Young person

Mixenden Urban Park is more than just a space - it’s a catalyst for connection, creativity, and community pride. The North Halifax Partnership and local groups are proving that when we invest in places that bring people together, we unlock new opportunities for wellbeing and joy.
