The North Halifax Partnership has long been at the heart of community life locally, working to create opportunities that bring people together, improve wellbeing, and make our neighbourhoods more connected.
One of their latest successes is the Mixenden Urban Park Pop-up Skatepark – a vibrant initiative (ongoing until the end of March 2026) that’s giving young people in the area a safe and exciting place to ride, skate, and connect.
Before the pop-up sessions began, the skate and bike community in Mixenden had very few options. With no local skatepark to call their own, riders and skaters were left to practise on the streets – often without suitable or safe spaces to enjoy their sport. Recognising this gap, the North Halifax Partnership teamed up with the brilliant Skate It Yourself to bring a pop-up skatepark directly into the heart of the community.
The results have been nothing short of inspiring so far. Every Friday evening, the park now buzzes with energy as around 40 young people turn up to take part, transforming into a weekly highlight for many – full of laughter, learning, and new friendships.
The impact goes beyond sport. The sessions have played a key role in reducing anti-social behaviour, offering young people a positive and inclusive space where they feel valued and supported. It’s a brilliant example of how small, community-driven projects can create lasting change.
One local resident summed up the enthusiasm perfectly:
“Can the pop-up skatepark happen every day?”
The Mixenden Urban Park Pop-up Skatepark is a shining example of collaboration within the community, with the goal to listen, engage, and act on what communities truly need – creating spaces that don’t just promote physical activity, but also impact in ways much beyond it.
Active Calderdale is proud to support and celebrate projects like this – proving that when communities come together, positive movement happens in more ways than one.
