With 74% of adults in employment, spending an average of third of their waking hours in the workplace, it’s important that we embed physical activity into as many workplaces as we can across the borough. That’s why one of our groups for the Design Council process was focused on workplaces. At the end of the Design Council process, the workplaces design thinkers group decided to pilot their “Take Ten” initiative to get everyone moving more throughout the working week.
The unique blend of scenic countryside and historic architecture makes Calderdale a great area for walking. Building on the success of walks set up from GP practices - ‘surgery strolls’, we are looking to develop new walks that provide everyone with the opportunity to get involved.
Active Calderdale has worked with CREW heart support group and local GP practices to recruit and train new volunteer walk leaders. The new walk leaders are looking to develop and lead short walks from GP practices around their local areas, providing accessible social walks for everyone.
The ActiveCdale cup is a friendly competition between the primary schools of Calderdale, the objective is to be the most active, in the greatest variety of ways.
The 2019 competition was held on social media, with schools throughout the borough taking part by submitting images and videos of all of the unique ways that they stay active throughout the day.
